Acadia Healthcare has bolstered its board with the addition of an experienced corporate leader, naming Michael J. Fucci as an independent director in October 2020. The move expands Acadia’s board to nine members and brings a deep bench of governance, risk and talent-management expertise to the behavioral health services provider.
Mike Fucci, who retired from Deloitte in September 2020, served as Chairman Emeritus of Deloitte U.S. and prior to that was Executive Chairman from 2015 to 2019. In those roles he led governance and operational initiatives, including strategy, leadership succession, executive performance and compensation, and enterprise risk mitigation. Fucci also served as Chief Operating Officer of Deloitte Consulting from 2009 to 2015 and was a member of the Deloitte U.S. Board of Directors beginning in 2013. His responsibilities extended to the Deloitte Global Board, where he participated in global governance and compensation committees.
Acadia, headquartered in Franklin, Tennessee, operates 582 facilities across 40 states as well as locations in the United Kingdom and Puerto Rico. Its portfolio includes inpatient psychiatric hospitals, specialty treatment centers, residential programs and outpatient clinics. Company leadership said Fucci’s background aligns with Acadia’s strategic priorities as it seeks to scale services and manage regulatory and operational complexities across a broad footprint.
“[Fucci] brings a unique perspective on human resource transformation, corporate talent strategies and risk mitigation that will complement the work and expertise of our other directors,” Reeve Waud, chairman of Acadia’s board, said in a press release announcing the appointment. “We look forward to his valuable contributions as we execute our growth strategy and pursue our primary objective to deliver long-term value for our stockholders.”
Fucci also established and co-chaired the Board Leadership Forum, a coalition of Fortune 500 board chairs and lead directors focused on board-level trends and governance best practices, and chaired the Deloitte Foundation, overseeing education initiatives in the U.S.
Analysts say the appointment strengthens Acadia’s governance capabilities at a time when behavioral health providers face heightened scrutiny on compliance, staffing and quality outcomes. With Fucci’s record in talent development and risk oversight, the board adds a director versed in the complex intersection of people, policy and performance.
