Does Sweetgreen Really Fulfill A Mission, or Are They Just Spoon Feeding Us the Same Old Corporate Propaganda?

Sweetgreen is a restaurant chain that critics and industry experts say falls into the category of, “fast casual dining.” However, people on their lunch break or people who are just ready to get home after a long day at work often just call it healthy fast food.

The restaurant franchise offers healthy food in a quick, buffet style; a lot like Chipotle and other restaurants like it. The restaurant locations are very clean and comfortable in addition and the staff is pleasant. Customer service is a top priority. These things, amongst many other things make Sweetgreen very different form not only fast food restaurants like Burger King and McDonalds, but also from “fast casual dining,” restaurants like Chipotle.

Many business founders and CEOs state that their company has a mission and a purpose. However, it wasn’t until the past decade that so many business founders who stated they had a mission, really did. The founders of Sweetgreen, Nathaniel Ru, Jonathan Neman and Nicolas Jammet often say that they want to help people learn to eat better. In fact, their outreach mission is to teach young people how to eat healthier throughout schools in Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, California, New York, New Jersey and several other Northeastern States.

They even say that they hope the Sweetlife Festival, (the festival they sponsor featuring high caliber acts like Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Blondie, The Strokes and The Shins), serves to raise awareness about healthy eating amongst more people.

After hearing a statement like that, many people might think skeptically and think the Sweetgreen CEOs are lying to sound good for publicity. However, Sweetgreen’s founders truly seem to live the missions they constantly speak about:

  1. To spread the word about healthy eating, and
  2. Give back to their local communities and the environment

In fact, even their most popular menu collaborations and organic, locally-sourced salad design ideas speak volumes about what Ru, Neman and Jammet find most important.

The wastED Salad– Designed by Chef Dan Barber, this dish consists mainly of the types of foods salad makers typically through away like roasted bread heels, carrot peels, cabbage cores and broccoli stalks etc., topped with a delicious gourmet dressing.

The Za’atar Salad– was designed by Los Angeles Chefs Jon and Vinny. The proceeds went to support the local Sweetgreen in Schools Program.

Beets Don’t Kale my Vibe– This was a collaboration with musician Kendrick Lamar. 10% of the proceeds went to FoodCorps, an organization that seeks to link kids to sources of real, wholesome foods.

Simple And Easy Raw Vegan Sushi by Markus Rothkranz

Vegan or vegetarian sushi lovers everywhere can rejoice by making this delicious and easy recipe for raw vegan sushi that looks and tastes just like regular sushi. Cara Brotman shows us how to make the timeless nigiri sushi into a healthier raw vegan alternative.
Cara tells us that no animals whatsoever were harmed in the making of this sushi and that there is no rice whatsoever.

We start with a piece of aloe vera, that Cara picked from the garden, and some squeezed beet juice. Cara starts slicing the aloe vera in butterfly style which would give you horizontal pieces. Once you have your sliced aloe vera, you want to trim the corners to get the spines off and peel the skin as well. Next, you’re going to rinse your aloe vera slices under some cold water just to wash off all the gel and bitter flavor.

Once the aloe vera pieces are washed, Cara adds them to the beet juice so that they can marinate. Washing off your aloe vera is a very crucial step, Cara adds, since aloe vera has a very bitter taste and we don’t want that in our sushi. Next, Cara starts to work on the “rice”. The “rice” recipe consists of just some parsnips and binder to keep it all together. The binder is actually cashew butter which Cara adds to the food processor when chopping up the parsnips, once mixed altogether it looks eerily like rice.

Once the parsnip rice is finished, you’ll need nori or seaweed sheets and cut off a little strip. This will be the wrapper that helps the aloe vera beet juice soaked “fish” stay on top of the parsnip rice. You seal the end of the nori strip by just rubbing a bit of water on the end then folding and pressing gently but firmly against the strip. Once you’ve wrapped the strip of nori, you have officially made raw vegan sushi that harms no animals whatsoever. Cara states that it’s an easy way to get aloe vera into your system and that aloe vera is extremely healthy for you so any way you can incorporate it into your diet is great.

About Trust, Estate and Tax Law; How Cone Marshall is transforming New Zealand’s Legal Landscape

Cone Marshall is one of the few international law firms that are transforming the legal landscape of the country. Its two Principals are Karen Marshall and Geoffrey Cone. The firm’s head office is in Auckland, Level 3 of the Panel house. The legal firm deals with tax and trust laws.

Karen Marshall

Before she joined the firm in 2005, she was working at another company in London where she worked with the commercial litigation division. After joining Cone Marshall in 2005, she was promoted to the position of Principal in 2006. Her role is that of advisor to statutory trustee companies. She has a lot of experience when it comes to the general management of trusts.

Geoffrey Marshall has over three decades of experience in the provision of International tax planning, trustee and trust management services. Their company works with international families together with their advisors. They establish trusts in New Zealand, create partnerships and also companies. They also provide global wealth and planning advice.

Cone has been defined by the law Firm & Experts Directory as a lawyer with much of their expertise honed in taxation.

There is a myth that has been going on about New Zealand being a tax haven. This is a claim that was backed by another claim that the country has a very elaborate system of private banking options for people running from taxation in their home countries. However, according to Mr. Cone, this is the farthest thing from the truth. The reality in the issue is that New Zealand is one of the most transparent economies when it comes to the establishment of foreign trusts.

The fact that New Zealand is a charter member and subscribes to all the principles of the OECD debunks this myth. There is also the reality that the country has been white listed as one of the places with the most transparent in laws affecting the exchange of information between governments. The reality is that New Zealand is not the ideal place to come hiding when you have embezzled money or acquired wealth illegally and want to put it in offshore accounts. It is in fact among the worst places to invest in.

The company, Cone Marshall has always adhered to and will always adhere to the set standards highest values when it comes to being transparent about tax and trusts. The one thing they assure all their clients is complete openness and honesty about international tax laws and trust law.

Cooking, Working and Singing with Norka Luque

Norka Luque may be most famously known for her songs but there are many other things that she is able to do besides just sing. In fact, singing was one of the last career paths that she chose for herself and was something that she actually just sort of stumbled into while she was pursuing a completely different type of career. What was, at first, a chance happening for Norka Luque, turned into something that would skyrocket her career and make her more successful than she could have ever dreamed of becoming if she had taken one of her first-chosen career paths.

Her original plan was to work in business. She wanted to be a business person and went to college for just that. She was not interested in anything other than business while she was at university but she did continue to sing as a hobby. This was something that she did only in her free time and she wasn’t even completely sure if she was good at it or not. She was worried that she wouldn’t be good enough to ever actually perform. She could have never dreamed of making singing her career and the main source of her regular income.

While she was at business school, she realized that it may not actually be something that she wanted to do for herself. She wanted creativity and the chance to show off some real talent. She thought that cooking would be the right avenue to take to get to that point. She quickly learned, though, that cooking in France is quite different than cooking in Venezuela. While she did finish her certificate from the culinary school that she attended, she was not interested in cooking any longer. She still enjoys cooking at home but the culinary school left somewhat of a bad taste in her mouth.

Briefly, after cooking school, Norka made the decision to study fashion. This is something that she truly thought that she could get her head into. While doing this, she met people who were looking for a female band mate. This band had heard Norka sing and wanted her for their band. They recruited her and the rest is history. Norka took that chance and was able to push off to become one of the most popular Venezuela-born singers in the world. She knew that she could make big things happen and she did so through singing.
